Barry Lawson Associates assisted the PIMA County Association of Governments (Arizona) in developing a 20-year, 2.1 billion dollar transportation plan for the Tucson region that was approved by voters in May 2006. Barry Lawson facilitated a series of meetings between a citizen advisory committee and a technical management committee to discuss a range of issues to be included in the plan. Among the significant issues to be addressed and resolved were overall transportation needs of the regional community, transportation technology, alternative transportation modes, environmental impacts and mitigation measures as well as goals, policies, priorities.
The Technical/Management Committee was responsible for drafting the plan and project costs and the Citizen Advisory Committee provided oversight, advice and concurrence. Joint meetings of the two committees brought together myriad perspectives and the facilitated discussions helped the two groups to speak as unified voices in shaping the plan that went to the voters. They also collaborated in promoting voter understanding and support for the Regional Transportation Plan. |
