Vermont Outdoor Recreation Plan
(2005-2009)
In 2005, Vermont’s Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation published its five-year plan for outdoor recreation. It contained an assessment of the state’s outdoor recreation resources, issues and directions, and presented guidance for communities, agencies and organizations in providing for recreational and natural resource based activities, guidance for legislative financial support, and better understanding by agencies and organizations of the public’s needs and concerns regarding outdoor recreation. Quite significantly, it ensured Vermont’s eligibility to receive funding from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
Barry Lawson Associates facilitated a series of meetings around the state providing forums for scores of Vermonters to participate in plan preparation. The notes from each meeting were prepared in an organized fashion to fit the scope and structure of the plan, reflecting the input from individuals and organizations on specific topics of interest to the state and to the public. |
